Clinical Supervision
I’m Sam, an experienced Clinical Supervisor and accredited counsellor, offering supervision to counsellors and helping professionals working with adult individuals and couples, whether you are in training or an established practitioner.
I know that finding the right supervisor is about more than qualifications and experience. The supervisory relationship is important, and I believe supervision works best when you feel comfortable bringing both your strengths and your uncertainties into the room.
My Approach
My supervisory approach is informed by the Seven-Eyed Model of Supervision, supporting the exploration of client work from multiple perspectives. Alongside this framework, I bring my authentic self into the supervisory relationship, creating a space where you can think openly, ask questions, share uncertainty, and reflect honestly on your work without fear of judgement.
I believe supervision works best when it feels collaborative, supportive, and grounded in trust. My aim is to create a supervisory relationship where you feel encouraged and valued, while also receiving honest and constructive feedback that helps you develop confidence, competence, ethical awareness, and trust in your own professional judgement.
Whilst there may be times when I gently challenge or invite you to consider different perspectives, my intention is never to direct your practice, but to support your growth, independence, and development as a practitioner.
Alongside supporting ethical and effective practice, I also believe supervision should nurture your wellbeing. Counselling can be incredibly rewarding work, but it can also be demanding, and supervision offers a dedicated space to reflect on the impact of the work and the practitioner behind it.
My Experience
After qualifying as an Integrative Counsellor and working in private practice for over six years, I undertook specialist training in Clinical Supervision to support counsellors working in our ever-changing profession.
Prior to counselling, I worked within the Armed Forces, Emergency Services, and mental health services across both public and charitable sectors. These experiences have given me a broad understanding of resilience, crisis, change, and the importance of supportive professional relationships.
Alongside my private practice, I have experience working with Employee Assistance Programmes (EAPs), both as an affiliate counsellor and as an employee. This provides me with an understanding of the requirements, expectations, and unique challenges that can arise when working within these settings.
Areas of Practice & Interests
Within my private practice, I work with both adults and couples and welcome supervisees working with either client group.
My supervisor training specifically included online and telephone counselling. Combined with my own experience of working in these ways, I am able to provide informed and knowledgeable supervision regardless of your mode of delivery.
My particular areas of interest include:
• Neurodivergence, particularly within couple relationships
• Adult children affected by difficult parental relationships, including narcissistic family dynamics
• Caring for ageing parents and changing family roles
• Relationship and couples work
• The impact of social media and digital culture on clients and practitioners
• Developing counselling practice within a changing professional landscape
Working Together
I offer supervision on both a monthly and fortnightly basis, with the flexibility to arrange additional sessions when needed. Sessions can range from 30 minutes to 2 hours, allowing us to find an arrangement that best suits your client work, caseload, and professional requirements.
I work with both trainee and qualified counsellors. For trainees, I have found that shorter, more regular sessions can often feel particularly supportive, and I offer fortnightly 45-minute supervision sessions where appropriate.
Alongside exploring client work, supervision can also provide space to reflect on your development as a practitioner. Whether you are building confidence, developing your therapeutic identity, navigating ethical dilemmas, growing a private practice, or adapting to changes within the profession, supervision offers an opportunity to pause, think, and gain perspective.
Having developed and grown my own private practice, I am also able to support supervisees from a business perspective, including private practice development, professional confidence, and building a sustainable way of working.
My hope is that supervisees leave sessions feeling supported, encouraged, and more confident in trusting their professional judgement, while having a dedicated space to reflect, learn, and continue developing both personally and professionally.
If you feel my approach may be a good fit for you, I’d be pleased to hear from you and discuss your supervision requirements further.
As a trainee Counsellor, I find supervision to be incredibly supportive. Sam shares her knowledge and provides valuable support during our sessions and in-between, when needed.
