What is Counselling

You may come to counselling following a life event, because you’re feeling stuck, or because you want to explore how you’re feeling. This might include experiences or emotions you’ve carried for some time, feelings of shame or guilt, or a sense of not fully understanding yourself. You don’t need to have the right words, a clear reason, or even know where to begin. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply wanting to understand yourself better, counselling offers you the opportunity to talk things through in a safe and supportive environment.
I offer a confidential, non-judgemental space where you can speak openly about whatever you are experiencing and feel heard and accepted, without pressure or expectation.

Rather than being told what to do, I will work with you to explore your thoughts and feelings, helping you to begin making sense of things in a way that feels right for you.

How can Counselling help?

Counselling can help in many ways, depending on what you are going through and what you would like to gain from the process. I will offer you the time and space to slow things down, reflect, and begin to understand yourself more deeply. This might include recognising patterns in your thoughts, feelings, or relationships, and exploring where these may come from. You are given the space to process your experiences, to feel heard without judgement, and to begin making sense of things in your own way.

Through this increased awareness, you may start to see things from a different perspective, gain a deeper understanding of yourself, and begin to heal from past or present experiences. Counselling can also support you in developing new ways of coping, learning helpful skills, and building a more compassionate and accepting relationship with yourself.

For some, counselling is about working through a specific issue or life event. For others, it may be about gaining clarity, feeling more connected to themselves, or creating a sense of direction and change.

The process is led by you, and we will move at a pace that feels comfortable, with no pressure to share more than you feel ready to.

Sam is an excellent counsellor, she is kind, calm and very sympathetic. She knew exactly how to approach help me and how to move forward and combat any problems going forward. She also knew exactly how and when to dig deeper on something I’d talk with her. Her flexibility on time was also a great bonus, as I have two small children so, having our sessions in the evening was very convenient.
